DEAFHEAVEN
Challenging and pushing the genre like no other, Deafheaven is the most exciting thing to happen to metal in the last decade. Lush, sonic dreamscapes whose notes float between bands like Cocteau Twins and Explosions in the Sky crater down to brutal black-metal blast beats and utter vocal havoc wreaked out by a frontman who's stage presence is closer to Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan than it is their peers.
These photographs are from their show at South Street Seaport in Manhattan where they played in open air on the roof of Pier 17, which is exactly where they belong—at the top.
